Maxine Dalton Barton died at her home in Beaver, Utah surrounded by her family on July 2, 2012. Born July 9, 1931 in Cedar City, Utah to Harrell Warren and Alice Elvira Howell Dalton, she was the last of three children. She graduated from Parowan high school and attended BAC for two years where she met her sweetheart and lifetime companion, John Keith Barton. They were married December 27, 1950 and sealed in the St. George temple July 14, 1956. She lived with her parents in Parowan until Keith returned from Korea and then lived in California until Keith was discharged from the service. They came home to Beaver, Utah where they lived for four years, moved to Greenville, Utah for eleven years and back to Beaver for the remainder of her life. Online condolences can be made at www.sumortuary.com
Family was the highlight of her life. She had five children of her own and was second mother to countless others. She also has 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was the heart of our family and the glue that held us all together. She loved her home which she helped Keith build and took excellent care of. She loved to walk and did so for many years. People always watched for her to go up the street. But most of all she loved to laugh, always seeing the humor in everything and focused on the bright side. She will be greatly missed by all of us who are left behind.
She worked for many years at the Beaver Drug Store. She enjoyed the friendship of her coworkers and greeting all the people of the community. She was the co recipient of five college degrees, two masters and one doctorate degree as she supported and encouraged her children to get an education.
She served all of her life in the LDS church. She was a visiting teacher for 60 years, primary teacher and secretary treasurer in relief society for many years as well as anything else she was asked to do. She was always quietly helping a neighbor or a friend with the little things. Later in life she served a mission with her husband at the Cove Fort Historic site. She was also a member of the BPW and the DUP.
She is survived by her husband John Keith, son, Bill (Kim) of Mansfield, Texas, son, Paul (Deana) of Beaver, Utah, daughter Denise of Las Vegas, Nevada, son Tom (Kristi) of Kanab, Utah and Matt (Carlynn) of Enoch, Utah as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Friday July 6, from 6 to 8pm at Southern Utah Mortuary (195 North 200 West) and Saturday July 7, from 9:30 to 10:30am at the Beaver 3rd Ward Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00am at the Beaver 3rd Ward Chapel. Interment will take place at the Greenville, Utah cemetery, all under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
